"For example," she says, "if we place ourselves in joy, being loving--not necessarily to another but just being in that state--we find that our lives begin to reflect a state of harmony. The reward is a cyclical state of being healthy, balanced, joyful, and loving." Through her work with fitness training clients over the years, Winifred has witnessed and helped impart changes that people experience as awareness. "Energy is not static," she says. "You are feeling it all the time, but not usually conscious of it. People tend to react to energy. Instead, we need to be pro-active with it to create what we seek to reflect in our world." | 11 | text | After years of studying Energetics, Winifred Adams' long-awaited goal, to create a line of fine jewelry, in addition to her one-of-a-kind hand-made pieces, has finally come to fruition. Beauty and Balance combines rich color with the inherent Energetics of semi-precious stones and the aesthetics of balance, Winifred has created a line that everyone and anyone can wear, enjoy and be healed by. "Jewelry is an extension of ourselves," Winifred says. "It's with adornment that we assign meaning--whether it be beauty, elegance, or a reminder to Be of Heart and Soul. It's my sincerest intent that the women who wear these pieces use them to reflect balance and beauty in their lives, and to remember to Be Love in this world." For her premier line, Beauty and Balance, Winifred has designed for equilibrium, a theme she's used in her work for years, but which took on greater meaning after study and consideration of other cultures that achieved that within their societies, chief among them the Hopi Indians. She chose tourmaline as her primary stone. It was her first love and there's rarely a day she's not wearing it. Tourmaline is a fine crystal--at the top of its kingdom, one step below the precious stones, but of similar value. It manifests in a vast array of colors and harbors refined energetic properties. Tourmaline has historically been used to deflect negativity and radiation. It's also been used to transmute negativity and fears carried by an individual, and to assist a return to a state of softer, more loving energy. Each color of tourmaline offers a unique energetic quality. (See Meaning of Stones) "All tourmaline has been known to deflect negativity and realign the energy centers of the body. In our world of technological bombardment, this is essential. We use cellular phones, we sit before computers throughout the day, we live near electric towers--we could use some deflection. And why not in the form of beauty?" Winifred asks. "I've had clients who, after wearing my tourmaline necklaces or bracelets, have reported a feeling of clarity and a reduction in headaches while still being at their computers all day." Whether it's for beauty or balance, there's something in this line for everyone; glamorous needle thread earrings with convenient, secure u-bends, sporty tourmaline studs, or sophisticated hoops with interchangeable single-color drops, whimsical three-drop stainless steel hoops and Winifred's favorite--6-drop gold needle threads with every color of tourmaline--blue, green, and pink. Other stones offered are blue topaz, amethyst, iolite, and lemon citrine, in Sterling Silver and 18k gold. | 13 | text |  Not every artist or designer begins their journey knowing they will become one. Most don't. It's an evolutionary process.
Far from the long snowy winters and humid summers of Upstate New York, Winifred Adams found herself at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the fall of 1990, intending to enter the fashion world in some creative way. Jewelry design always had a special draw for her, but when she finally decided to study the art at school, she was deeply disappointed to find that the curriculum had been cancelled.
But then a small gift changed her future forever. Her dear collegiate boyfriend made her a donut-shaped bracelet of varying crystals the like of which she had never seen before. Fascinated with the wondrous things, she began a quest to learn about the stones, their origins, meanings, and uses from the ancient past. For Winifred, "Crystals and stones of all colors are so beautiful, I just marvel at them--their shapes, their inclusions, their clarity, their energy--these things have always drawn me. I love that something so beautiful and powerful is produced naturally in the Earth. When I look at them or hold lots of stones in my hand, I feel them, I sense their properties and it affects me in a profoundly satisfying way."
The first stone she purchased was a watermelon tourmaline crystal, which she had made into a ring; still a prized possession. It wasn't long before Winifred was making her own jewelry. As she began receiving requests from all over the country for her work, she found herself creating original pieces based on the stone's meanings and colors that resonated with the people who sought her out. Within a year, her jewelry was featured in shops in resort towns across Colorado, the Adirondack Mountains and Upstate New York.
Yet once again, life stepped in to make changes that in hindsight, prepared her for where she is today. "When I left school," she says, "I wanted to take my jewelry to the next level, but I didn't have the capital or the business experience to do so. So, I did what most people do; I got a job."
Her segue into the world of health and fitness training led to a deep understanding of body systems and energetics. She herself adopted a healthful lifestyle, which she maintains today, and she began consciousness training through meditation and the study of light and sound. It was a natural progression from bio-mechanical balancing to energetic balancing through a variety of holistic modalities. From her work with health and healing, Winifred has taken her 13 year motto of "Helping you feel better from the inside out," and applied it to her new jewelry line, Beauty and Balance.
Winifred has now brought these varied life experiences together, like pieces of a puzzle, to create the Beauty and Balance line of jewelry that supports health, healing and the experience of joy. |

When the young woman finally stood in front of him she said, "Your majesty, if you are the One who possesses all this and I am allowed but one choice, then...I choose you." The Golden Yellow Heliodor, which is the center stone of the first in the series, has been historically known to help "a person to turn one's will into that of the Divine will." In this regard, it was chosen along with the setting of a crown to represent the choice of "choosing the King."
